Online banner advertising has been traditionally charged on a CPM (cost per thousand page impressions) and was the preserve of established brands and organisations. Click-through rates on the banner advertisements were about 1 click in every 200 times the banner was seen and then that click or visitor had to be converted to your message or buy what you sold.
These days most banner advertising space can be bought on a CPC (cost per click) basis which is a much fairer pricing model.
